Course Description:
This course will introduce students to the statistical and computational techniques needed for processing and analyzing the population recording data now being generated with new high throughput neuro-technologies in experimental animals. These technologies include two-photon imaging, wide field imaging, and mini-scopes. The course will first address technical and preprocessing issues for all these technologies. Then we will discuss the range of multivariate methods for finding low dimensional representations of neural population activity. Then the course will pivot to characterizing the relationship between population activity and animal behavior or experimental stimulus. We will also discuss several emerging topics in neural population analysis, such as network analysis and inter regional communication.
